White House Threatens Veto of Second Supplemental Funding Bill

The House Thursday passed a second version of the war funding bill in defiance of a White House threat to veto any legislation that contained restrictions on funding or similar elements as those seen in the previous version.

The legislation would provide only several months of funding, requiring an additional vote to release further funds in late July. The White House had previously expressed its desire for funding through the fiscal year. Also debated on the floor of the House this week was a bill calling for the redeployment of U.S. troops from Iraq within the next 90 days. That measure failed to garner a majority.
